One of the main reasons why members of FCG value the Farm Consultancy Group so much is the opportunity to share ideas, to debate various aspects of farm management, and to learn from each other’s experiences and skills. We operate our own practices under the umbrella of FCG.
Despite many of us having many years of experience advising farmers, we all realise that we never stop learning. The day you cease to learn is the day you ‘shuffle off this mortal coil’. That is why so many of my FCG colleagues are so keen on farmers becoming members of discussion groups.
Clearly such groups will vary widely, and individual farmers need to find and join a discussion group where they will gel with other members, where they will learn from other’s experiences, and – perhaps most importantly – where they are challenged. No one has a monopoly on all the good ideas. We should all be able to justify all (well – most) important business decisions taken.
Justifying them to yourself is easy. Justification to your business partners and family may also be easy. But having to justify them to a bunch of knowledgeable farming professionals will really make you think!
Maybe you would like us as a group of consultants to come onto your farm as part of a training/learning exercise and challenge you to improve your business?
Contact Charles at charlesholt@fcgagric.com or your local FCG office about joining a local discussion group.
