Support for Farmers in AONB or National Parks – William Waterfield (Andover)

DEFRA have finally released details of the long-awaited grant for those farming in Protected Landscapes, National Parks or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Farming in Protected Landscapes programme is a part of Defra’s Agricultural Transition Plan.  Offering funding to farmers and land managers it goes beyond the ongoing agri-environment scheme and will help fund projects that:

  • support nature recovery
  • mitigate the impacts of climate change
  • provide opportunities for people to discover, enjoy and understand the landscape and its cultural heritage
  • support nature-friendly, sustainable farm businesses

The Farming in Protected Landscapes programme is in some ways like the old LEADER programme but is more closely targeted and has been developed by Defra with the support of Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and National Park staff from across England and will be administered by the various ANOB bodies.

The programme of grants runs from July 2021 to March 2024, and it is likely that the scheme will be oversubscribed so early applications are advised.
