Recovering from the Storm

back to News

The arrival of storms Dudley, Eunice & Franklin have caused severe damage to many farms and businesses across the UK. With damage comes the need to repair and rebuild, however, in our haste to repair we must not sacrifice safety.

As practical people, our natural instinct is to repair and make good as soon as possible. From fallen trees to missing cladding and roof sheets and other damage, the need to repair can often be urgent to protect stored crops or livestock.

With this good intentioned haste, it is important to stop and take a step back, assess the situation and ask yourself some questions.

• Can I complete this repair safely on my own? Or with the team available?
• Should I wait for a professional? Such as a professional tree surgeon or roofer.
• Has the weather died down sufficiently to attempt the repair?
• Do I have the correct equipment to complete the repair safely? E.g. LOLER compliant Man Cage.

If after assessing the situation, the risk is too great then the repair should be left until either the conditions are suitable or a professional or the correct equipment are available.
