FiPL also known as ‘Farming in a Protected Landscape’ is a governmental grant which tends to get overlooked, with many meetings with clients ending with the same comment; ‘I didn’t even know this grant existed.’

To qualify for this grant, your land must either be within an Area of outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), part of a National Park in England or the Broads.

Land outside of these brackets also have the ability to apply if the project they wish to undertake may benefit the protected landscape or if the objectives of the protected landscape correspond (this will need to be checked by a local protected landscape body).

Defra created this grant with four main aims for the funding:

  1. Support nature recovery.
  2. Mitigate the impacts of climate change.
  3. Provide opportunities for the public to discover, enjoy and understand the landscape and its cultural heritage.
  4. Protect or improve the quality and character of the landscape or place.

This grant scheme allows for 100% of all costs to be paid for if the project doesn’t provide any commercial gain.  It also works alongside other Defra funding which allows for added value where it is needed most.

We have recently had a great success within FCG White Avon Office, with funding being approved for a project to enhance and improve pasture on St Catherine’s Valley to create a wildlife rich habitat.

If you are looking to apply for this grant, then you have no time to spare with the programme closing in March 2025.
