This One Simple Practice Seperates Successful People from the Rest!

I have been reading a book called The University of Berkshire Hathaway which summarises the main points from the renowned AGMs attended by tens of thousands of shareholders annually to hang on Warren Buffett and Charlie Mungers words of wisdom.  At one of the AGMs, Warren was asked what simple habit or practice enabled him to be so successful in life.  Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were also asked independently a similar question.  They all have said emphatically, Focus!

Buffet said, ” The difference between successful people and really successful people is that the really successful people say no to almost everything”.

‘No’ to spending time with uninspiring, negative critical  people, ‘no’ to overworking, ‘no’ to meeting people at networking events that they will never meet again, ‘no’ to doing all the work, ‘NO’ to people pleasing, (this doesn’t mean that they don’t wish to accommodate and yield to others desires) and ‘no’ to opportunities that don’t excite them even if there is money to be made!

They take control of their time and align offers and opportunities with their top five career goals.  They disregard goals six onwards as it crowds and complicates the clarity of focus.

Steve Jobs said “People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on.  But that’s not what it means at all.  It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are.  You have to pick carefully.  I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done.  Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.”

Where is your focus?  Do you know what you want out of life?  Is your business delivering the results of your focus?

If not give Gerard a call and get all the decision makers in your business in the same room to facilitate the alignment of your personal and business goals to enable you and your business to be focused on delivering for you individually and collectively.

Being successful is not about money per se but one of many ways of measuring success depending on what one is trying to achieve in life!
