With Defra grants currently closed for applications and sometimes limiting due to their rigidity, the Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund offers an alternative funding source for projects on chalk and limestone landscapes such as grassland, woodland, rivers and floodplain habitats. Big Chalk has previously supported projects such as grassland restoration, scrub clearance, virtual fencing and stream restoration.

If your farm is located on a chalk or limestone landscape and you have been considering some restoration work, please get in touch and we can discuss an application with Big Chalk. They have indicated that approx. half of the 2026/27 funding has already been allocated, so the sooner we can start the process, the better.
