Jessica Sterritt has joined the WhiteAvon Team as a Trainee Consultant. Here’s what she had to say about her experience so far:

back to News

I’m currently completing my placement year with FCG WhiteAvon as a trainee consultant, while studying Agribusiness Management at Harper Adams University. Coming from a dairy background in Northern Ireland, I’m keen to explore the differences in farming practices across the UK.

During my time here, I’ll be working with various consultants to gain insight into different areas of farm consultancy, while contributing ideas and building a deeper understanding of the role.

Since joining in mid-July, I’ve spent my first few weeks supporting the team with admin, which has helped me understand how FCG operates and settle into the team.

I’ve already had the opportunity to take responsibility for some projects, including a ‘pick-your-own’ sunflower field appraisal for a client exploring diversification. This involved researching similar enterprises and assessing factors like setup costs, profitability, footfall, location, and marketing.

I also worked on a sprayer appraisal, helping a client decide if and when to purchase this piece of machinery. These tasks have given me valuable insight into the practical decision-making involved in consultancy and the importance of tailored advice.

Farm consultancy is a fantastic sector in which to undertake a placement. It offers the chance to broaden knowledge across many different aspects of the agricultural industry, while also providing opportunities to develop professional skills. I am especially enjoying the client-facing side of the role and the variety of farming businesses I am already experiencing.

I hope to meet many of you during my time with FCG.
