Planning Permission Grant and Second House Built

back to News

It was very good to receive an email recently, with a photograph of a new farmhouse built on a dairy farm in Buckinghamshire.  This was a case I dealt with a little while ago.

The clients wanted permission for a second dwelling to serve a successful and expanding dairy farm.  The Council’s planning officers saw no reason for the farmer’s son to want to live on the farm and recommended for a refusal.  They felt it was fine for him to live four miles away, and commute several times a day, as his parents were semi-retiring.

This was not at all what the clients wanted.  They all wanted the son to live on farm with his wife and growing family, so he could fulfill what we feel is an “essential functional need” to live on site, full-time.  I was able to get the case heard by the planning committee, and we were then able to persuade the committee of our case, and full permanent planning permission was granted.  With the house now built and occupied, we have another satisfied client.
